Start by cutting the lemon in half and squeezing the juice into a microwave-safe bowl. Drop the lemon halves into the bowl as well, and fill it with water about halfway full.
Place the bowl in the microwave and heat it on high for 3-5 minutes, or until the liquid comes to a boil. Let it sit in the microwave for another 5 minutes to allow the steam to work its magic.
Carefully remove the bowl using oven mitts or a dishcloth, as it will be hot. Wipe down the interior of the microwave with the lemon water solution using a damp dishcloth or sponge. The steam will have loosened any stuck-on food particles, making them easier to clean off.
For stubborn stains, dip the cloth in the lemon water and scrub gently. The natural acidity of the lemon will help break down the grime while leaving behind a fresh citrus scent.
Once you’ve cleaned the inside, be sure to also wipe down the exterior of the microwave for a complete refresh.
Notes: Remember to be cautious when working with hot liquids and steam. Always use appropriate protection to avoid burns.
